Jump For Heart 2017
By Evelyn Cluff, 6th Grade Student
On April 28, 2017 Rees Elementary participated in American Heart Association’s Jump for Heart. It is our spring service project. All funds go to research on healthy hearts. This helps all kinds of people, like Mr. Mendenhall’s daughter who was born with a hole in her heart. As a celebration for a job well done we have a jump-a-thon.
The jump-a-thon is where we all do fun jumping activities all afternoon and then have a jump off. Each grade sent up there best jump ropers and competed for the prize of being the best in their grade. In first grade, the champion was Bianca Zaragoza. In second grade, Peyton Hawkins. In third grade, Gavin Gull. In fourth grade, Halle Hawkins. In fifth grade, Wyatt Christensen. Last but not least, in sixth grade, Addie Evans. The school teacher champion is Miss Dekker.
In the weeks following up to the Jump-a-thon, each class collected donations of money. The top three classes who donated the most money were: Mr. Mendenhall’s 6th grade class with $528.40, Ms. Barber’s 4th grade class with $275, and Ms. Crandal’s 5th grade class with $246.79. Overall, the whole school donated $2135.11. I think that all of Rees can agree that everybody at the Jump-a-thon had a great time! Keep jumping!
