Fathers and Daughters Danced the Night Away at Rees Sock Hop

Girls from Rees Elementary School brought their fathers, uncles, or grandfathers to cut the rug on Friday February 3, 2012.  The gym was transformed into a 1950's dance hall, complete with music, decoration, and a mirror ball.  A photographer took pictures of the happy families throughout the evening.  Dads came dressed in white crew tees, leather jackets, and jeans.  Girls came dressed in costumes too; poodle skirts, hair ribbons, and of course, their socks!  The term sock hop comes from the 1950's when teenagers would remove their shoes at dances.  Everyone strutted their stuff and had a wonderful time rockin' and rollin' on the dance floor.  There were a few contests as well including hula hoop, limbo, and bubble gum blowing.  These were all made popular in the 1950's as well.  As the worn out dancers left the building, they got to take home a bag of Cracker Jacks.  The sock hop was a night to remember!
