Third graders worked on building the tallest "Christmas Tree" for Fun Friday last week! Their building materials consisted of gumdrops, toothpicks, and three large marshmallows. It was a tricky challenge, but two teams tied for the tallest freestanding structure at 9 inches each. The winning teams were with Brikelle, Pressley, Danna, Esteban, CJ, Callen, Lizzy, Betzy, Kaden, and Jack. Nice work!
The Rees Elementary annual gingerbread house winners were picked today during a school assembly. All students were given a ticket earlier this week and put their ticket in a drawing for their favorite gingerbread house. The winners take their prize home to enjoy during the holidays! Congratulations students! Thank you Rees staff for such fantastic houses this year!
Students were suprised today when Santa came to Rees at the end of our dress rehearsal today. Santa sang a song with the students and left a treat for them in their clasrooms. Thank you Santa for coming to Rees Elementary!!
3rd grade was invited to visit Zion's bank and spread some Christmas cheer. Each 3rd grader made an ornament to hang on their tree, then they sang a couple of Christmas songs, and enjoyed some Christmas cookies. Merry Christmas everyone!
Mr. Mendenhall’s class was taught a Native American Unit by Shoshana Begay this past November, in honor of Native American Heritage month. Shoshana is from the Navajo tribe, and is a teacher in Nebo Title VI Indian Education. She loves teaching about her culture, and she wanted to teach other students about true Native American cultural as to avoid any misconceptions. Mr. Mendenhall’s class had the opportunity to learn about Native American contributions, clothing, music, dwellings, beliefs, famous individuals, and arts and crafts!
The students at Rees had the opportunity to hear from Donald Davis, a world famous storyteller/author. Mr. Davis shared some very funny stories with the students. They enjoyed listening to him and were so engaged in the funny things he told them.
Last week at board meeting, Mr. Mendenhall received a Nebo PEAK award (PEAK stands for Positive Energy And Kindness).
