The second grade students rotate through each teacher’s classroom learning social studies and science concepts.  Only two classes so far have been rotated through.  In one rotation, students learned about matter.  One fact they learn is that there are three states of matter: solids, liquids and gases.  In each state, the molecules act differently.  They also learn that matter cannot be created or destroyed.  Matter can only change their shape by different forces.  Students were given materials to explore this concept.  At the end of the unit, we reviewed this concept with ‘states of matter floats’ (aka- root beer floats).
