Extra!  Extra!  Shayne Durrant, the advertising manager for the BYU student newspaper The Daily Universe, visited the fifth graders at Rees Elementary in Spanish Fork on October 6, 2011.  During his visit, Mr. Durrant explained the ins and outs of the print industry.  Students were fascinated to learn about the many aspects of putting together a newspaper and how advertising revenue was the driving force behind it all.  Mr. Durrant threw water bottles with The Daily Universe logo into the crowd of eager fifth graders and distributed free editions of the newspaper to all.

On your marks, get set, go!  The community surrounding Rees Elementary in Spanish Fork was the site of the PTA Fun Run on Wednesday, September 28th.  Students, faculty, and parents lined up on the south end of the school in anticipation.  Runners took off from the start line and weaved through surrounding streets.  After two laps, the runners had completed a mile and could partake of the bounty of apple slices and water awaiting them.  Hundreds of students from grades K-6 participated in the Fun Run, resulting in hundreds of miles run and hundreds of smiles.  It's fun to be fit!

Reading is celebrated with gold at Rees Elementary School in Spanish Fork, Utah.  First grade has added a new element to the Road to Success Reading Program.  All first graders are asked to read at least 20 minutes every day of the week.  Each student then records their minutes they have read.  At the end of the week, their reading calendar is returned to their teacher.
