Submitted by angie.keisel on

The second grade went to Harward Farms on April 1st.  Students learned different aspects of agriculture and how it provides for us each day of our lives.  It’s a perfect field trip for second graders because it ties directly into the second grade curriculum.   The first thing we learned about was where wool comes from and how it is used.  We even watched a sheep being sheared!  Some of the other things we learned about are:

Jump Rope for Heart

Yesterday we had our annual jump-a-thon kick-off assembly.  Students were sent home with an envelope to collect donations for the American Heart Association.  Last year our school donated $8,195!  Wow!  This money goes to people with sick hearts-infants, children and adults.  Our goal this year is to reach $10,000.  We can do this with everyone’s help!

Rees African Drumming (RAD)

Submitted by angie.keisel on

You will often hear students drumming on lunch tables, desks, and their own laps throughout the school.  This is because of Jeff Ballard.  Mr. Ballard has created and directed our very own Rees African Drumming group, also known as RAD.  He has been organizing this group for the last thirteen years!  He spends many, many hours planning, preparing and teaching drumming to students.  The beats and rhythms students play come from all around the world.  We have been so lucky to have him here at Rees giving students this musical opportunity.  Thank you Mr.

End of Term 3 Activity - 2nd Grade

Submitted by angie.keisel on

Second grade students gathered outside to celebrate their outstanding behavior for Term 3.  Activities students could participate in were sidewalk chalk, jump roping, hula-hooping, play on the playground or activities with the giant parachute.  Mr. Pitcher even joined in on the fun because of all the excitement the kids were showing.  Thanks for being awesome students.  Second grade is the best!
