These students were chosen as students of the month for excellent work in class, improving math scores, having great attendance, being good friends and examples to their classmates, or improving in reading. Way to go 2nd graders!
We are pleased to award Jen Gasser the Teacher of the Year for Rees Elementary 2018! One of Jen's colleagues had this to say about her:
"She is energetic, fun, willing to work, and she cares deeply about her students and their learning. She has served as a debate coach and association rep, and has spend countless hours as a student council adviser planning many school-wide events like Warm the Soles, Ghosty Grams, and BYU conference.
The library was transformed into a Mountain Man heaven last week with our visitors Brian and Paul Squires. These men came to Rees to share their incredible knowledge with the 4th grades. They held the students captive with their stories and details about their clothing, tools and history. We appreciate them coming to share with us!
TONIGHT 1/29/19 is Family Arts Night. This is an opportunity for ALL Rees families to come and participate with their children in different art mediums. We will have master artists in photography, visual arts, dance and storytelling here to share their talents with you. We will begin at 6:00 pm, and have 4 twenty minute rotations. Refreshments will be served at the end!
As part of our focus on different art mediums, we host a Family Arts Night every year. This year it will be held on Monday January 29th, at 6:00. We will meet in the gym and then families will have the opportunity to rotate and participate in the different art forms that your students have been learning about this year. This is a super fun night and your whole family is invited. Refreshments will be served.
Our younger students in grades 1-3 have been participating in their Artist in Residence rotations this week. They will continue into next week with a parent showcase on February 2nd at 1:30 p.m. Students were able to choose between photography, visual arts, dance and storytelling. They have had a great time so far and are learning techniques and skills for their art medium. Today in dance they were learning how to move with the mood and volume of the music. Penny Wars is underway here at Rees Elementary, and will continue until Friday the 26th. For those unfamiliar, every year we collect pennies to purchase shoes for the Warm the Soles organization. Classes each have their own cans and are competing to see who can earn the most money. Every penny dropped in the class can earns 1 point.
Nebo School District will be hosting a series of Parent Awareness Nights. The topics of discussion will include mental health and safety planning with youth. Several community service providers will be present to answer question and help individuals to access services. See the event flyer for more information.
Mrs. Harvey's First Graders earned a prize from Mr. Gull for their hard work during the month of December. They chose to challenge him to GoNoodle "The Ultimate Champ" to see who could last the longest. Mr. Gull did really well against the 22 students, who are now working to earn another prize. There may be a rematch forthcoming.
