Students Throw Water Balloons at Teachers for Reading Incentive

The day started like any other.  The sun rose majestically above the Wasatch Mountains and Rees Elementary School basked in its peaceful rays.  Students filed out of school buses, teachers prepared lessons, and the student council filled water balloons.  That's right, hundreds and hundreds of water balloons.

Students  banded together to throw water balloons at their teachers on Friday, February 10th.  The balloon toss was part of a reading incentive created by the school: all students that completed their assigned home reading in January could participate in throwing water balloons at teachers.  Luckily for the teachers, the February afternoon was unseasonably warm.

The warrior students lined up along the back of the school while teachers dressed in ridiculous costumes prepared for the slaughter.  A rousing speech was given by Mr. Chris Roberts (or Braveheart) to instill hope and courage in the poor souls.  And then it was time.  The teachers ran for their lives as students unloaded nearly 500 water balloons on them.  Miraculously, there were no casualties on either side.  But in the end, everybody had a great time and the message was clear: reading is fun!
